I Have Had Enough !!

After 5 years and 5 months I have finally had enough.

On Tuesday morning of March 22  I SPAT THE DUMMY !!

There was just no way I was going to be able to fold the newspaper with my arthritic left hand as per normal simply because of the amount of added pamphlets inside.

There were already three (3) pamphlets machine inserted in the paper and a further four (4) that I was to insert myself prior to delivery to mailboxes.

These pamphlets have been an ongoing issue with me simply because the Newspaper was ripping us off by machine inserting advertising material into the papers and not paying us for it.
We (the jackass deliverers) are paid a few cents extra to insert pamphlets, catalogs, fliers etc into the papers before delivering them.

                                                         BUT!!

There is NEVER any compensation for extra weight and extra bulk which ultimately culminates in extra time delivering directly due to the reduced amount of papers able to be carried.

Now, the sum looks like this:
xtraWeight + xtraBulk + xtraTime - Compensation = $Loss

The old adage, TIME IS MONEY is 100% true in every living thing you do.

There is also the physical aspect to be considered as well.
I have osteoarthritis in both arms and severe in my left hand and right shoulder.
Now my doctor tells me I have RSI (repetitive strain injury) on top of the arthritis from my continued single left handed folding of these papers and steering my motorcycle single handed with my right.

Another old adage;  NO PAIN NO GAIN is also true

BUT!!

The situation with these papers had become
     NO  GAIN  &  LOTS'A  PAIN
so do I just continue doing it?

 NO THANK YOU !!
 UNDER  CONSTRUCTION

This blog is still under construction even though I have retired and given up delivering these papers.

Photos will be added and some comments pertaining to the issues faced in carrying out this mostly thankless part time job.

Presently still gathering material for update and editing photos.

A Little Bit About The Old Paperboy

I started delivering local newspapers for the exercise in all the walking, but graduated to a bicycle when my back started playing up. Then the move to a motorcycle was made. Good thinking on my part for once !!

The term "Old Paperboy" came about one morning about three years ago, right after I gave up the pushbike for the scooter.
A young lass of around 7 or 8 was at the letterbox with her mom when I pulled up one morning during school holidays, and I heard her say,   "It's not the postie mom, it's the old paperboy"
Well, at 60 I didn't get called a boy too often and it put me in a real good mood for the rest of that day.

Most days are enjoyable but that can soon change given some people's inconsideration and others total arrogance, in relation to their letterboxes and access to them.

This blog will be mainly a visual insight into the many aspects involved in delivering these papers and will highlight the problems and difficulties encountered on each and every delivery day.
